Bin and band set on fire against Ballymena property in ‘reckless’ arson

A building in Ballymena has been damaged after reports that arsonists started a “reckless” fire involving a trash can and a tire.

The incident happened around 11:45 am this morning in the Queen Street area, with a trash can and tire pushed against a door and set on fire.

Detective Sergeant Crothers said: “Officers attended, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service who extinguished the blaze.

Fortunately, no one was in the property at the time, but this was a reckless incident that caused significant damage to the front door.

“Our investigations are ongoing into this incident, which we are treating as arson with intent to endanger life, and would ask anyone with information, including dashcam or other footage, to contact us at 101 under mention of reference 740 of 3 July.”

A report can also be made online using the PSNI’s non-emergency reporting form, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11 or online.
