Arsenal, England, opened their campaign in the Dubai Super Cup by beating Lyon, France, by winning 3-0 in the showdown held at Al Maktoum Stadium at Al Nasr Club, in front of 7,451 fans, in the first confrontation, within the tournament held with the participation of 4 teams, also including Liverpool, England and Italian Milan.
The three goals came in the first half, after Brazil’s Gabriel Magales opened the scoring early for the “gunners” from a header in the 19th minute, taking advantage of a corner, and Eddie Nketiah added the second goal in the 33rd minute with a quick rebound, before Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira confirmed his team excelled by adding the third goal, after a left footed shot from outside the area in the 39th minute.
The match was moderated by an Emirati referee team led by Adel Al-Naqbi “Squah”, Talal Rashid “First Assistant”, Saeed Al-Marzouqi “Second Assistant” and Ahmed Issa Darwish “Fourth Referee”.
Arsenal scored 4 points in its first game, after adding another point by beating Lyon in a penalty shootout 2–1.
At the end of the matches, the participating teams will be awarded penalty kicks regardless of the results, and according to the tournament system, the winner will be awarded three points, compared to two points for each team in case the match ends in a draw, in addition to one point added to the balance of the winner of the penalty shootout, which follows the end of each match, while the team is crowned with the most points in the “Dubai Super Cup 2022”.
The tournament continues on Sunday with Lyon and Liverpool, while Arsenal and Milan meet on December 13 and the curtain falls on the tournament with Liverpool and Milan on December 16.
