All flights canceled today from UK airports

More than 100 flights have been canceled by British Airways and easyJet respectively to and from the UK’s busiest airports, Heathrow and Gatwick.

The airlines cite staff shortages due to illness as the cause of their problems.

BA has grounded at least 96 services to and from its main base at London Heathrow: 18 domestic and 78 European and Mediterranean.

The airline says most passengers have been notified of their flight cancellations for a week or two.

Once again, Milan Malpensa is the most canceled destination: three of the seven departing flights from Heathrow are grounded.

In addition, the departure on Tuesday evening from Heathrow to Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires is currently 23 hours late.

EasyJet from Gatwick

At easyJet’s main base, Gatwick, at least 10 departures and arrivals have been cancelled, including connections to Ibiza, Nice and Palma.

In addition, passengers scheduled to fly from Gatwick to Naples on Tuesday night have been delayed overnight. The airline told them: “This is due to a previous disruption to your flight, which has caused the crew to reach their maximum legal working hours.”

All passengers whose flights have been canceled are entitled to new flights and, if the cause is staff illness, cash compensation – if the cancellation is announced less than two weeks in advance.
