All Bar One manager hits back after ‘terrible’ birthday party claims drinks were served ‘half full’

The manager of a bar in central Birmingham has hit back at a birthday party claiming it was a “terrible place” – and they had served drinks that were “only half full”. The client, who visited All Bar One, near Birmingham New Street station with eight people, in March to celebrate a birthday.

But they went to Tripadvisor to claim that they had been given drinks “only half full” and that they had been asked for identification after people had already finished their drinks. She described the staff as “extremely rude” with “shocking customer service”.

All Bar One is rated 4.5 on the popular travel website – with over 650 reviews. It was also awarded a Travellers’ Choice Award last year.

It regularly receives rave reviews from customers – including a recent visitor earlier this month who said they “would definitely recommend” All Bar One. While Dan said there was “great service and friendly staff”.

But this particular reviewer said they were looking for a “nice bar for birthday drinks and came a long way from that”. They left All Bar One a one star review and named their review “AWFUL PLACE”.

It read: “We booked a table and were seated shortly after we arrived. There was a group of eight of us for my friend’s birthday.

“Some of our drinks arrived earlier than others. We were then asked for identification after my friends had finished their drinks. We then asked because we had finished our drinks, drinks that were only half full, before being challenged and the waitress gave us a very very rude response and walked away I then asked to speak to the manager and explained what had happened and he had said “thanks for telling”.

“Very rude staff and shocking customer service in general. Was looking for a nice bar for birthday drinks and came a long way.”

But the general manager of All Bar One decided to respond to the negative criticism. And they didn’t hold back – pointing out that it was “completely false” that drinks were served half full.

They also urged the reviewer to discuss it with them over the phone rather than Tripadvisor. The answer was: “The drinks were not half full – this is not true at all. Your drinks arrived at different times because you ordered in the app. It is the responsibility of the server to check the ID when they send the drinks to the table – regardless of whether or not they have been previously checked.

“If you would like to discuss this further through the appropriate channel, please feel free to call me. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback – have a nice day.”

All Bar One has 663 reviews on Tripadvisor – nearly 450 of which rated “excellent”. A visitor earlier this month said, “Best pad Thai I’ve ever had from an All Bar One, recommendations to Chef Tom, the service was great and my server Phoebe was attentive and helpful.

“She let me know the chef’s name so he can get some recommendation. Will definitely return.”

Annie said, “Birthday meal after shopping with my daughter. Our waitress, Rio, was friendly and very helpful with menu advice.

“The food came quickly and very tasty. Birdcage cocktails were great. Complimentary cheesecake as it was my birthday was delicious. Another great dining experience and will definitely visit again.”

Another said, “Excellent service and super friendly. Jacky made the most amazing pineapple daiquiri. Thanks and best time we are in Birmingham, we will be back.”

And Dan added: “I was traveling to Birmingham for some work and just popped into All Bar One New Street station for a drink and some food and I was met by friendly staff who served me straight away and put me at ease, the cocktails are to die for and the food was amazing cooked by Daniel, Sally and Emma!Absolutely recommended to all my friends and I will be returning myself.
