Today, Friday, shops and malls in Dubai have started to apply the 25 fils rate on plastic bags, according to the decision of the Dubai Municipality, with the aim of saving the environment and legalizing the use of single-use bags, in preparation for full ban.

According to the municipality, the list of products to which the 25 fils rate will be applied includes “all disposable bags used for the transport of goods at the point of purchase, including all bags with a thickness of less than 57 micrometers and made of plastic , paper, biodegradable plastic and biodegradable plant material.”

As for the products excluded from the decree, the municipality identified eight types of products outside the decree, including “bags with a thickness of more than 57 micrometers, bags of medicines from pharmacies, roll bags for vegetables, fruit, meat and fish, bread bags , wheat bags, garbage bags of all shapes and sizes, and electronic gadgets, laundry bags.
