The very dull wet weather in Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong and the surrounding area, as well as the school holidays, ensured a captive audience last night, but viewers looked elsewhere for entertainment.

On the way to the final, Ten’s MasterChef Australia topped the non-news programs for the night with 811,000 nationally. Nine Australian Ninja Warrior thingie (how inappropriate on a cold, wet winter night) drew 730,000, Seven’s nostalgia ravaged News Spotlight birthday heartwarming-tugger on Strictly Ballroom 671,000.

Insiders on the ABC had another good Sunday — 570,000 nationally, enough for a top 10 spot for the day, with stand-in host Patricia Karvelas and Aunty’s mystery road precursor, Origindrew 635,000.
